ABOUT THE TCE

Any dream of an entrepreneurial future has to start somewhere. The Tilburg Center of Entrepreneurship (TCE, formerly the Brabant Center of Entrepreneurship) is a good place to begin. It’s here that new entrepreneurs develop their business knowledge and skills. An important initiative because the business world needs people with nerve, insight and talent to create innovation. TCE is aiming to inspire and educate young academics on both entrepreneurship (start-ups) as well as corporate entrepreneurship.

HISTORY:

In connecting academic knowledge and insights with the entrepreneurship practice, TCE discovered a loophole with regard to corporate entrepreneurship and the connection of education, research and business around this topic. By organizing a Round Table on Corporate Entrepreneurship early 2011 we experienced various opportunities for strategic partnerships and in 2012 we have started a research group that aspires to share best practices among scientists and practitioners by conducting various activities.

OUR ACTIVITIES (WHAT WE DO)

  • PhD-Research
Any dream of an entrepreneurial future has to start somewhere. The Tilburg Center of Entrepreneurship (TCE, formerly the Brabant Center of Entrepreneurship) is a good place to begin. It’s here that new entrepreneurs develop their business knowledge and skills. An important initiative because the business world needs people with nerve, insight and talent to create innovation. TCE is aiming to inspire and educate young academics on both entrepreneurship (start-ups) as well as corporate entrepreneurship.
  • Thesis research (master level)
In 2013, a master track on entrepreneurship will be part of the curriculum of the Organization & Strategy department at Tilburg School of Economics and Management. Students participating in this track need to write their final thesis on entrepreneurship or corporate entrepreneurship. Part of the thesis is conducting research, preferably within an organization. Being responsible for this master track, we aim to help our students in getting an internship with our strategic partners where they can work on issues relevant for the organization and help create new insights based on academic research.
  • Guest lectures
Our strategic partners are invited to give talks on the topics to our third year bachelor students as well as our master students and summer school students. These guest lectures are evaluated by the students as highly motivating and providing them with insights into practical issues within organisations.
  • Business cases
Various strategic partners are participating in business case research. The aim is to gather six or seven business cases from various organisations in order to create an overview on corporate venturing in large (Dutch) firms (CZ Zorgverzekeringen, Ericsson, Akzo, KLM, DSM have given word to participate; inventory meetings have been planned with Sabic, Mars, ProRail, Unilever, Orbio, GSK, NRC). Publication of the book that contains these cases is planned in the beginning of 2014.
  • Resource Library
In order to share the knowledge we obtain, we will start working on a resource library as of 2013. In this online library we aim to publish all relevant research conducted and created by our fellows and master students. Summaries will be online available for non-partners.
  • Round Table
For sharing best practices and relevant new (academic) insights, we have been organizing Round Table meetings at the University’s Faculty Club over the past few years. This networking event will be continued and extended to two meetings a year. During the Round Table both practitioners and academics will share their expertise and experience on relevant issues while enjoying a tasteful supper.
